Video - RT2500 FAQs

Matrox RT2500 is a single PCI-bus video editing card that works with the graphics card in your computer system.

Matrox RT2000 is a 2-card set that includes the RT2000 PCI-bus video editing card and the Matrox Millennium Flex 3D edition AGP display adapter.

There are slight differences in the application software bundled with these two products and different system compatibility requirements, but their features and functionality are identical.

Digital Video (DV) and MPEG-2 files that are no larger than 2 GB are completely compatible between Matrox DigiSuite DTV and Matrox RT2500. Files captured on Matrox DigiSuite DTV can be brought onto a Matrox RT2500 station for editing and vice versa. Files created on Matrox DigiSuite DTV in DVCPRO50 format, however, are not supported on Matrox RT2500.

In general, all analog camcorders (8mm, Hi8, S-VHS, etc.) are compatible with Matrox RT2500. The breakout box has composite and S-Video (Y/C) input and output connectors, as well as unbalanced RCA stereo (left & right) inputs.

Matrox RT2500 is also compatible with most DV camcorders that use the miniDV, DVCAM or DVCPRO tape format. Video from these camcorders can be output (or input) via their IEEE-1394 connectors to the DV connector on the RT2500 card.

Matrox RT2500 does not provide native editing of DV50 (DVCPRO50 and Digital-S [D-9]) material. If you are interested in DV50 editing, please refer to the information about Matrox DigiSuite DTV.

Digital Video (DV) is a 'broadcast-quality' format used for news gathering and television. Matrox RT2500, which captures DV natively, is also broadcast-quality. Therefore, any realtime effects processing performed with the captured DV footage remains suitable for broadcast.

The analog inputs and outputs of Matrox RT2500 are not meant to be used in the broadcast environment because there are no analog component connections, and RT2500 does not support an external genlock source (blackburst).
