Matrox Extio uses PCI Express technology to revolutionize remote multi-monitor graphics

Montreal, Canada, February 22, 2006 —Matrox Graphics Inc. announces the release of the new remote graphics technology set to revolutionize the multi-monitor landscape and define a new user interface for professional, corporate computing. Matrox Extio will be the first product line to leverage Matrox's new Remote Graphics Unit (RGU) technology.

With RGU technology, standard computing peripherals such as keyboard, video, mouse, and audio can be extended from the PC. Matrox Extio products will, for the first time, incorporate the extension of integrated multi-monitor graphics over distances of 250 meters (820 feet) of fiber-optic cabling or up to 7 meters (22 feet) of electrical cabling.

"By fundamentally separating your computing platform into multiple components, RGU technology allows financial, insurance and enterprise IT administrators greater flexibility in terms of both design and implementation," says Alan Vandenbussche, Vice-President of Sales & Marketing, Matrox Graphics Inc. "The genuine value that PCI Express (as an industry standard for graphics) provides 2D business professionals lies in how well this protocol lends itself to extension technology. Powering data transmission speeds of up to 2.5 GigaBits per second, RGU technology will clearly respond to an industry requirement for a stable extension solution."

Upcoming Matrox Extio products will be built with the strong combination of Matrox RGU technology and the proven hardware and software stability that Matrox Graphics, Inc. is globally-renowned for. Matrox Extio will provide 128 MB of graphics memory and support for up to 4 digital and/or analog monitors. It is an ideal solution financial, insurance, and enterprise environments where maximizing data security and minimizing heat, noise, and space are prevalent issues.

Matrox Extio products will be extremely versatile and offer a multitude of connectivity options including FireWire, Ethernet, integrated audio, video input, and USB. To allow for compatibility with both existing and new platforms, Matrox RGU technology can connect to a host device via PCI, PCI Express, or ExpressCard buses.

The Matrox Extio product line will be available in upcoming months.
