Product Waste Management

In an effort to facilitate waste management of its products, Matrox is complying with the following legislations.

WEEE Directive

Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, known as the WEEE directive, was transposed into law by the EU Parliament in 2003. This directive stipulated that as of August 13th, 2005, producers and importers of electronic products must assist and finance the collection, treatment, recovery and proper disposal of waste from electrical and electronic equipment that they sell in the EU market. Following numerous amendments, this directive was recast as directive 2012/19/EU.

In the EU, Matrox is defined as a producer of WEEE in Ireland and has voluntarily accepted the producer status in the UK, assuming all the associated responsibilities. Matrox has the required measures in place to ensure compliance with this directive and all applicable amending acts, including:
  • Properly marking and labelling its products to indicate WEEE-compliance and to inform when a product must not be discarded as conventional municipal waste
  • Including product documentation to inform the user of his role in the recovery of WEEE
  • Providing information for collecting WEEE from end-users
  • Participating in and financing recycling schemes

For more information, please refer to a summary of the WEEE Directive legislation on the official website of the European Union.

End users who wish to return WEEE units to Matrox for collection/treatment must contact Matrox RMA group and indicate that the request is for WEEE and/or recycling. An RMA number will then be issued and instructions for return provided.

Battery Directive

Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators, known as the Battery Directive, was transposed into law by the EU Parliament in 2006. The directive restricts the amount of mercury and cadmium in certain batteries and accumulators in the EU market, and promotes the collection and recycling of such products.

Matrox has a battery producer status in Ireland and has voluntarily accepted that status in the UK as well. In order to be compliant with this directive and its amending acts, Matrox makes sure that the batteries in its products contain less than 0.0005% by weight of mercury and less than 0.002% by weight of cadmium.

Packaging Directive

Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste, known as the Packaging Directive, was transposed into law by the EU Parliament in 1994. This directive was further amended by the directive (EU) 2018/852 in 2018. The Packaging Directive contains measures designed to limit and prevent the production of packaging waste, and promote the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovering of such waste.

Matrox meets the requirements of this directive and its amending acts by ensuring the following:
  • Matrox packaging does not contain heavy metals in amounts exceeding the allowed limits
  • Packaging is manufactured in a way that permits reuse and recovery
  • Proper marking and labelling that allows the identification of the nature of the packaging material
  • Participating in a packaging collection and recycling scheme in Germany with Landbell®
