Matrox Imaging Releases Updates 114 and 115 for MIL X Software

Updates address inference or prediction offload using the MIL X deep learning classifier, enable higher inspection rates, and open access to more applications

MONTREAL, Quebec – Dec. 1, 2022 – Matrox® Imaging, a proven developer of advanced machine vision components, software and systems, now part of Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), today announced the release of two updates for Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) X vision software. Update 114 and Update 115 offload to graphics processing units (GPUs), in many cases accelerating inference or prediction using a MIL X deep learning classifier.

MIL X software includes classification tools for automatically categorizing image content, providing optimized convolutional neural networks (CNNs) or models for inspection using deep learning.

Update 114 uses an Intel® Integrated GPU (iGPU) through Intel OpenVINO. Classifying a roughly 1 Megapixel monochrome image can result in a two-time speed-up going from the central processing unit (CPU) cores (using FP32 datatype) to the iGPU (using FP16 datatype) in an Intel Core i5-1250PE processor.

Update 115 handles the same classification process using an NVIDIA GPU through the CUDA. This update can yield a two-time speed-up going from an Intel Core i7-12700 processor (using CPU cores and FP32 datatype) to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card (using FP32 datatype).

“These updates enable users to leverage available computing resources to achieve higher inspection rates, which in turn opens access to more applications,” said Pierantonio Boriero, Senior Manager, Product Management, Matrox Imaging, Zebra Technologies.

Updates 114 and 115 are available for download through the software update service to registered users of MIL X with a valid maintenance subscription as well as those evaluating MIL X. Please note that both updates require the presence of MIL X Version 1911 or higher with Service Pack 5 (SP5).

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Update 114 enables the offload of deep learning inference using an Intel Integrated GPU (iGPU) through Intel OpenVINO, while Update 115 uses an NVIDIA GPU through CUDA for the offload of deep learning inference.
  • Registered users of MIL X and those evaluating the software can access these updates via the software download service.
  • Both updates require the presence of MIL X Version 1911 or higher with SP5.
