Enhancing your photographic effects

To accentuate the antique look of the still video clip you created in Using Frame Hold to create photographic effects, we'll add a photo border to the clip using Adobe Title Designer. For a more dramatic effect we'll also show you how to simultaneously fly both the photo border and the video clip off the screen in real time.

1. Set up the Adobe Premiere Pro Timeline

   Make sure you've completed the Using Frame Hold to create photographic effects tutorial. Your Timeline should be similar to the following:

   
   

2. Remove the DVE effect

   For your photo border effect to work properly, you need to remove the Matrox Advanced DVE effect that you applied to your still image. To do this:

   1. Select the duplicate clip on track Video 2, beneath the white matte.
   2. Make sure the Effect Controls window is open. To open it, choose Window > Effect Controls.
   3. In the Effect Controls window, select the Matrox Advanced DVEs effect, right-click the Matrox Advanced DVEs effect, then select Clear.

3. Create a photo border

   To add a photo border using Adobe Title Designer, do the following:

   1. Select the second clip and choose Clip > Video Options > Frame Hold.
   2. Choose File > New > Title. The Adobe Title Designer dialog box opens.
   3. Click the Templates button.
      
      
   4. In the Templates dialog box, choose Celebrations_7 > Wedding_7 > wc lower3rd7, then click Apply.
      
      
   5. Customize the automatic text as you wish.
   6. To save your new photo border clip, choose File > Save. Give your clip a name, then click Save.
   7. Close the Adobe Title Designer dialog box.

4. Add the photo border to your Timeline

   To add the photo border you created in step 3, do the following:

   1. Select the white matte on track Video 3. Drag it up one layer to track Video 4.
      Note  You may need to add another video track to your Timeline. To add additional tracks, refer to your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide.
   2. Drag the photo border clip from your project bin to track Video 3, above the second video clip on track Video 2. You may need to adjust the photo border's Out point so that it corresponds to the Out point of the video clip on track Video 2.
      
      

5. Add a DVE to the photo border and second video clip

   To make both the photo border and second video clip simultaneous fly off the screen, we'll create a nested sequence.
   
   To create a nested sequence of the photo border and second video clip, and apply a DVE to this clip, do the following:

   1. Shift-click both the photo border and second video clip, then choose Edit > Cut.
   2. Choose File > New > Sequence.
   3. Give your new sequence a name and click OK.
   4. Choose Edit > Paste. Your new sequence will be automatically added to your video project bin.
   5. Return to Sequence 01 by clicking its respective tab.
      
      
   6. Drag your new sequence to track Video 2 on the Timeline so it's aligned with the white matte and background clip.
   7. Drag the Matrox Advanced DVEs effect from the Video Effects bin in the Effects window onto the new sequence clip.
   8. Click the Setup button beside Matrox Advanced DVEs in the Effects Controls window.
   9. In the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box, choose Advanced DVEs > 3D DVE Effects > Fly In and Out > Classic Bottom RC.
   10. Click OK to close the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box.

6. Preview your effect in real time

   Press the Play button in the Monitor window or press the Enter key on your keyboard to preview your resulting effect.
