Using Matrox MediaTools to create instant projects

Using Matrox MediaTools and the Automate to Sequence command in Adobe Premiere, you can automatically add clips from your Project bin to the Timeline with transitions inserted between each clip.

This tutorial shows you how to create an entire project, including transitions, in minutes.

Capture or import clips into Matrox MediaTools
Start Matrox MediaTools and capture or import several video clips into the MediaTools clip list.

2 Export your clip list to an Adobe Premiere project
To export your clip list directly to a new Adobe Premiere project (.ppj file), do the following:
a Select the clips you want to export using SHIFT+click.
b Right-click the clip list. Choose Export to Premiere from the pop-up menu. A message is displayed asking if you want to export all clips in the list, or export selected clips. Choose Export All.

c In the Save As dialog box, enter the directory and file name for the project you want to export. Click Save.
d Close MediaTools.

 

3 Open your new project in Adobe Premiere Pro
To open your new project:
a Start Adobe Premiere Pro.
b Choose File > Open, then select the project you created.
cClick OK in the convert dialog box to convert your .ppj to a .prproj.

 

4 Organize clips in the Project window
To organize your clips in a storyboard-style grid:
a Click the Icon View button at the bottom of the Project window.

b Double-click your sequence folder.
c Drag your clips in the Project window to arrange them in the order you want them to appear on the Timeline.

 

5 Set up the Adobe Premiere Pro Timeline
To import your clips to the Timeline and automatically add transitions between the clips:
a Shift+click to select the clips in the Project window that you wish to import to the Timeline.

b Click the Automate to Sequence button at the bottom of the Project window to open the Automate to Sequence dialog box.

c Beside Ordering, select Sort Order.
dUnder the To section select Sequentially as the Placement, Insert Edit as the Method, and set the Clip Overlap to 30 frames.
eUnder Transitions, select Apply Default Transition to add transitions between each of your clips,
f Click OK to return to your Timeline.

Preview your Timeline
Press the Play button in the Monitor window or press the Enter key on your keyboard to preview the resulting Timeline.

Expert tip By default, Cross Dissolve is set as the default transition effect. To change the default transition effect for future projects, click on any transition in the Video Transitions bin and choose Set Default Transition from the Effects window menu. The default transition will appear in the Video Transitions bin with a red outline.
