Final Cut Pro 4.1.1M1 Updater for Matrox RTMac

(February 2, 2004)

Apple has provided Matrox with this Final Cut Pro updater that fixes a random crash that can occur with Matrox RTMac 4.1.

Important: You must upgrade to Final Cut Pro 4.1.1 before running this updater, and you must run this updater before proceeding with the installation of the Matrox RTMac version 4.1 software. Please note that no new features are included with this updater. It is only required for use with Matrox RTMac.

  1. Download the following file:
    FCPupdaterforRTMac.dmg.sitx (5.9 MB)
  2. You should use StuffIt Expander (version 7.0 or later), available at www.aladdinsys.com/expander/ to uncompress the downloaded file. Double-click the unstuffed file to mount the disk image.
  3. When prompted, restart your computer. You can then proceed with the installation of Matrox RTMac version 4.1 as explained below.

Matrox RTMac version 4.1 for Final Cut Pro (Mac OS X), with WYSIWYG support for Adobe After Effects and Discreet combustion

(February 2, 2004)

This release of Matrox RTMac is for use with Final Cut Pro 4.1.1 only. If you want to use RTMac with Final Cut Pro 3 or 4 (Mac OS X), you must use Matrox RTMac version 4.0.

The file below contains the Matrox RTMac installer for Final Cut Pro (Mac OS X), the Matrox RTMac Firmware 1.2, and a PDF version of the Matrox RTMac for Final Cut Pro Installation and User Guide. A PDF "Visual Guide" is also included to help you configure your Matrox RTMac and Final Cut Pro settings.

Note: The Release Notes for this release of Matrox RTMac contain important last-minute information, and therefore are not included in the file below. You can download a PDF version of the Matrox RTMac Release Notes here.

Before you can install this software, you must install Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later, Apple Final Cut Pro 4.1.1, and QuickTime 6.4 or later. You can download QuickTime from the Apple web site at www.apple.com/quicktime. You must also download and run the Final Cut Pro 4.1.1 Updater for Matrox RTMac.

Matrox RTMac version 4.1 is compatible with Mac OS X Panther v10.3. However, the Power Mac G5 is not supported with Matrox RTMac.

The following issue has been resolved in this release:
  • A/V sync has been greatly improved on PAL systems.

Important: When you install the Matrox RTMac software, the Matrox RTMac installer must, due to a limitation in Final Cut Pro, delete your Final Cut Pro preferences file, and you will lose your custom settings. A new default preferences file will be created automatically when you first launch Final Cut Pro following the RTMac installation. We recommend that you note your Final Cut Pro custom settings before installing the Matrox RTMac software. You can then reconfigure your preferences as described in your Final Cut Pro User's Manual. As well, there are certain general system settings that must be configured before you can start working with RTMac.

To simplify this process - and to get you up and running with Matrox RTMac and Final Cut Pro as quickly as possible - consult A Visual Guide to your Matrox RTMac and Final Cut Pro 4 Settings, included with the RTMac software. This guide provides a screenshot-based overview of settings and preferences you'll need to set after installing the Matrox RTMac software.

  1. Download the following file:

  4. When prompted, restart your computer. On startup, if you receive a message saying the Matrox RTMac Firmware 1.2 is missing, install the RTMac Firmware 1.2 included in the downloaded file. (For more information, see the readme PDF that comes with the Firmware updater.)
