Matrox RTMac version 4.0 for Final Cut Pro, with WYSIWYG support for Adobe After Effects and Discreet combustion

(October 30, 2003)

Required for use with Final Cut Pro 3 and 4 only

The file below contains the Matrox RTMac installer for Final Cut Pro, the Matrox RTMac Firmware 1.2, and a PDF version of the Matrox RTMac for Final Cut Pro Installation and User Guide. Also included are two PDF "Visual Guides" to help you configure your Matrox RTMac and Final Cut Pro settings one version for Final Cut Pro 3, and another for Final Cut Pro 4. This is the same software build as Matrox RTMac Preview Release 5. Therefore, if you installed Preview Release 5, you do not need to download and install this software.

Note: The Release Notes for this release of Matrox RTMac contain important last-minute information, and therefore are not included in the file below. You can download a PDF version of the Matrox RTMac Release Notes here.

Before you can install this software, you must install Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later, Apple Final Cut Pro 3 or 4, and QuickTime 6.3 or later. You can download QuickTime from the Apple web site at www.apple.com/quicktime.

Please note that this version of Matrox RTMac supports neither Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther") nor the Power Mac G5.

Important: There are A/V sync issues with this release of Matrox RTMac, Final Cut Pro 4, and QuickTime 6.4. If you're using Final Cut Pro 4, do not install QuickTime 6.4. If you've already upgraded to QuickTime 6.4, you can find a QuickTime 6.3 reinstaller at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120255. These A/V sync issues have not been found with Matrox RTMac, Final Cut Pro 3, and QuickTime 6.4. Therefore, if you're using Final Cut Pro 3, you can safely upgrade to QuickTime 6.4.

  1. Download the following file:
    MatroxRTMac4.0.img.sitx (70.5 MB)
  2. You should use StuffIt Expander (version 7.0 or later), available at www.aladdinsys.com/expander/ to uncompress the downloaded file. Double-click the unstuffed file to mount the disk image.
  3. From the folder that corresponds to the language of your operating system, run the installer, Matrox RTMac Installer, and follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. When prompted, restart your computer. On startup, if you receive a message saying the Matrox RTMac Firmware 1.2 is missing, install the RTMac Firmware 1.2 included in the downloaded file. (For more information, see the readme PDF that comes with the Firmware updater.)

Important: When you install the Matrox RTMac software, the Matrox RTMac installer must, due to a limitation in Final Cut Pro, delete your Final Cut Pro preferences file, and you will lose your custom settings. A new default preferences file will be created automatically when you first launch Final Cut Pro following the RTMac installation. We recommend that you note your Final Cut Pro custom settings before installing the Matrox RTMac software. You can then reconfigure your preferences as described in your Final Cut Pro User's Manual. As well, there are certain general system settings that must be configured before you can start working with RTMac.

To simplify this process and to get you up and running with Matrox RTMac and Final Cut Pro as quickly as possible consult the appropriate "Visual Guide" (for either Final Cut Pro 3 or Final Cut Pro 4) included with the RTMac software. These guides provide screenshot-based overviews of settings and preferences you'll need to set after installing the Matrox RTMac software.
