ADTX ArrayMasStor L-HP AXRR-LH000FF-F storage unit

In order to receive the maximum performance from the ADTX ArrayMasStor L-HP AXRR-LH000FF-F, we recommend the following configuration:

Number of drives: 15
Drive type: SATA at 7200 RPM
RAID level: Zero

Step 1: Initial hardware setup

You will need a dual-channel 4-gigabit fibre channel storage adapter. We recommend the ATTO Celerity FC-42XS.

Step 2: Configuring your unit within the ADTX application

  1. Install the AVC-L (ADTX Virtual Console-L) application that you will use to communicate with and monitor the RAID unit.
  2. Start the AVC-L application by choosing Start > Programs > Virtual Console > Virtual Console Client. The Virtual Console Client dialog box appears, similar to the following: View of Visual Console client 4.9
  3. In the text box, type the IP address of the RAID unit, and press Enter. Step 2.3
  4. In the Connect to RAID Subsystem dialog box, ensure that the information that appears is correct, and if so, click Set. Step 2.4
  5. In the left pane of the Virtual Console Client dialog box, expand the General folder by clicking the magnifying glass. The new RAID unit is displayed and important information regarding the selected unit appears in the panes on the right. Step 2.5
  6. To add an array to the RAID unit, select the unit by clicking it in the left pane, and then on the Tools menu click Add Array. Step 2.6
  7. At this point it is important to know how many arrays and LUNs (logical unit numbers) you require. The instructions that follow detail how to set up two arrays (one primary and one secondary) with one LUN on each array. To set up the primary array:
    • In the Array Number list, click 0.
    • In the Array Ownership list, click Primary.
    • Under Included HDD, select the HDD 1 to HDD 7 check boxes to add drives 1 to 7 to the array.
    • In the Password text box, type the password. Unless it was changed, the default password is "password".
    • Click OK.
    Step 2.7
  8. In the AVC : Add Array Confirm dialog box, ensure that the information that appears is correct, and if so, click Yes. Step 2.8
  9. To set up the secondary array, repeat step 6, and then:
    • In the Array Number list, click 1.
    • In the Array Ownership list, click Secondary.
    • Under Included HDD, select the HDD 9 to HDD 15 check boxes to add drives 9 to 15 to the array.
    • In the Password text box, type the password. Unless it was changed, the default password is "password".
    • Click OK.
    Step 2.9
  10. In the AVC : Add Array Confirm dialog box, ensure that the information that appears is correct, and if so, click Yes. Step 2.10
  11. Once both arrays are added, you must map the logical unit number (LUN) for each array. To map the LUN for the primary array, select the array by clicking Array 0 in the left pane, and then on the Tools menu click Add LU. Step 2.11
  12. In the AVC : Add LU dialog box, set the LUN parameters for the primary array (Array 0):
    • Under Choose RAID Level, in the RAID Level list, click 0.
    • In the Choose Free Space box, click the value to select the total amount of free space.
    • In the Password text box, type the password. Unless it was changed, the default password is "password".
    • Click OK.
    Step 2.12
  13. In the AVC : Add LU Confirm dialog box, ensure that the information that appears is correct, and if so, click Yes. Step 2.13
Note The array and LUN must be initialized before they can be used. Once a LUN is added to an array, the AVC-L application automatically activates the initialization process, which may take up to several hours to complete depending on the size of the drives installed.
  14. To map the LUN for the secondary array, select the array by clicking Array 1 in the left pane, and then on the Tools menu click Add LU. Step 2.14
  15. In the AVC : Add LU dialog box, set the LUN parameters for the secondary array (Array 1):
    • Under Choose RAID Level, in the RAID Level list, click 0.
    • In the Choose Free Space box, click the value to select the total amount of free space.
    • In the Password text box, type the password. Unless it was changed, the default password is "password".
    • Click OK.
    Step 2.15
  16. In the AVC : Add LU Confirm dialog box, ensure that the information that appears is correct, and if so, click Yes. Step 2.16
Note The array and LUN must be initialized before they can be used. Once a LUN is added to an array, the AVC-L application automatically activates the initialization process, which may take up to several hours to complete depending on the size of the drives installed.
  17. Once both arrays and LUNs are initialized successfully, you must format the new drives in order to use them (see "Step 3: Formatting your drives").

Step 3: Formatting your drives

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, and click Manage. The Computer Management dialog box appears.

Note If the My Computer icon is not on the desktop, from the taskbar choose Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administration Tools, and double-click Computer Management.
  2. In the left pane, expand the Storage folder if necessary, and click Disk Management. The two new drives appear in the right pane. Note that the size of each new drive/volume should be 1.6 terabytes (TB).
  3. Convert each of the two new drives to a dynamic disk. To do so, in the right pane right-click a gray box corresponding to one of the two new drives, and click Convert to Dynamic Disk. The Convert to Dynamic Disk dialog box appears.
  4. Select the check boxes corresponding to the two new drives, and click OK.
  5. You must now stripe the two new drives. In the right pane, right-click a gray box corresponding to one of the two new drives, and click New Volume. The New Volume Wizard dialog box appears.
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Striped, and then click Next.
  8. Select the two drives to stripe. To do so, in the Available box, click the desired drive(s) and then click Add. Once both new drives appear in the Selected box, click Next.
  9. To assign a letter to the drive, click the desired letter in the Assign the following drive letter list, and click Next.
  10. Click Format this volume with the following settings, in the Allocation unit size list click 64K, select Perform a quick format, and then click Next.
    Step 3.10
  11. Ensure that the information that appears is correct, and if so, click Finish.
