Matrox president awarded Le Prix Lionel-Boulet
Highest distinction granted to Mr. Lorne Trottier by Québec government highlights Matrox's leadership in scientific and technological innovation
November 21, 2003, Montreal, Canada - Matrox Electronic Systems, Ltd., the leading manufacturer of professional graphics, digital video editing and scientific and industrial imaging products, today announced that co-founder and president, Lorne Trottier, has been awarded Le Prix Lionel-Boulet. Awarded to researchers who have distinguished themselves through their inventions, their scientific and technological innovations, their leadership in scientific development, and their contribution to Québec's economic growth, this award is dedicated to the memory of Lionel Boulet (1919-1996), an engineer and founder of ERIQ, the Electricity Research Institute of Québec. It honors leading figures who have distinguished themselves through their industrial research and development (R&D) activities.
In 1976, Trottier and partner Branko Matic co-founded Matrox Electronic Systems. Over the past 27 years Trottier and Matic have built the Matrox group into a multi-million-dollar family of companies with operations in the computer graphics, imaging, and video industries. Throughout the company's growth, Trottier has assumed many different roles as both a manager and a technical innovator.
Matrox Graphics has pioneered the development of innovative technologies including DualHead®, TripleHead and quad-display, which enables a graphics card power two, three or four displays, from a single chip, in an array of productivity-enhancing modes and configurations. With years of experience developing graphics solutions with multi-display support, Matrox remains well ahead of the curve when it comes to R&D and solid driver development. In October 2000, Matrox Video Products Group received a prestigious Emmy award for "Outstanding Achievement in Technological Advancement," demonstrating its dedication to the development of ground-breaking technologies. Matrox Imaging has maintained its position as an industry leader by developing high-performance imaging hardware and custom ASICs that accelerate image processing algorithms; earlier this year, Matrox Imaging celebrated the tenth anniversary of its flagship product, the Matrox Imaging Library software development toolkit.
All Matrox divisions reinvest a large percentage of its profits into research and development (R&D), allowing the company to innovate and consistently offer breakthrough technologies.
