Matrox Chosen by Seiko's Factory Automation Division as Vision Supplier for their Windows NT-Based Robot Vision System
October 31, 1997, Montreal, Canada - The Matrox Imaging Products Group, a leader and innovator in providing PC hardware and software development tools to OEMs, system integrators and professional users, today announced that the Factory Automation Division of Seiko Instruments USA, Inc. will use award-winning Matrox imaging technology as part of its Vision Guide 2.0 robot vision system for Windows NT.
Seiko Instruments (Torrance, CA) has been providing precision robots worldwide for over eighteen years and is spearheading the drive to bring open systems to the robotics industry. "Going with Matrox gives us, and ultimately our customers, an excellent vision engine solution for our NT-based Vision Guide robot vision development/deployment system," said Kevin Keras, Marketing Manager for Seiko's Factory Automation Division. "We used the platform independent Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) as part of our Vision Guide offering for Windows NT. Because we are using MIL, we can leverage our investment in software development across multiple Matrox boards, both existing and future, for an easily maintained system that is both flexible and scalable. With MIL we are able to provide our customers with both a low cost and high performance solution using a Matrox frame grabber or image processor, through a common software interface (Vision Guide). This helps save them development time while also providing a clear migration path."
Keras cites Matrox's dominance in the imaging and graphics industry, track record, commitment to development, and technical support as additional factors that helped Seiko make its decision. This past year, the Matrox Corporate Group, which is comprised of Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd. and Matrox Graphics Inc., had sales of over 600 million dollars US.
"Seiko is just one of many large OEM customers that Matrox is winning over with its product line and service" said François Bertrand, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Imaging Products Group at Matrox. "We don't lock our customers into any specific hardware product, and we give them the software and technical support they need to bring robust, cost-effective systems to market quickly, based on the latest PC technology".
Matrox customers all over the world can count on PC tools with the best price/performance in the industry. World-class ASIC design experience, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, a huge engineering work force, and a commitment to developingcutting edge products ensures that any OEM, system integrator, or professional imaging end-user gets the imaging technology needed to get the job done quickly and cost-effectively.
Established in 1976, Matrox is a privately owned Canadian company based in Dorval, Quebec.
