MJPEG compression/decompression module for Matrox Meteor-II series frame grabbers now shipping
March 10, 1999, Montreal, Canada - Matrox Imaging today announced that the Motion JPEG compression/decompression module for Matrox Meteor-II series PCI frame grabbers is now shipping. Operating in unison with a Matrox Meteor-II frame grabber, this optional mezzanine module performs real-time MJPEG compression and decompression on monochrome and color images. Baseline (lossy) or lossless compression is supported.
MJPEG
The MJPEG module for Matrox Meteor-II series boards is supported with version 6.0 of the Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) software development toolkit. In addition to support for MJPEG compression/decompression hardware, MIL 6.0 provides software-based MJPEG compression and decompression while offering an extensive set of field-proven, high-level functions for image capture, transfer, processing (point-to-point, statistics, filtering, morphology, geometric transforms, FFT, JPEG codec, and segmentation), pattern matching, blob analysis, gauging, calibration, bar and matrix code reading, OCR, graphics and display. Optimized for Intel MMX technology, MIL is available as traditional 'C' libraries or ActiveX (OCX) controls for rapid development of machine vision and imaging applications. MIL is a common API across current and future Matrox frame grabbers and vision processors. MIL-Lite, a subset of MIL that provides image capture, transfer and display control, is also available. Matrox Intellicam, a Windows-based camera configuration utility, is bundled with MIL or MIL-Lite for quick and easy camera interfacing.
About the Matrox Meteor-II frame grabber series
All Matrox Meteor-II frame grabbers offer PCI bus mastering, real-time transfer to system memory at up to 130 MB/sec, 4 MB on-board memory, VM Channel secondary bus interface, power output and RS-232 interface, as well as trigger input.
The Matrox Meteor-II provides standard acquisition capabilities from NTSC, PAL, RS-170 and CCIR sources.
The Matrox Meteor-II/Multi-Channel model captures from analog interlaced or progressive frame scan component RGB, two channel analog progressive frame scan monochrome cameras, or multiple standard (RS-170/CCIR) monochrome cameras.
The Matrox Meteor-II/Digital model lets users interface to color/monochrome single or multitap output digital frame or line scan cameras. There is support for RS-422 signaling or the newer EIA-644 LVDS standard that is being adopted by camera manufacturers.
