Matrox Imaging announces support for GigE Vision™

May 9, 2006, Boston, Massachusetts - Today at The Vision Show East, Matrox Imaging is pleased to announce its endorsement of the new GigE Vision™ standard put forth by the Automated Imaging Association and its member companies. "The delivery of this standard brings machine vision to a new level" says François Bertrand, VP Sales and Marketing at Matrox Imaging. "The pervasiveness and affordability of Ethernet technology means that GigE Vision™ will make machine vision more accessible."

Matrox Imaging supports the GigE Vision™ standard by offering a highly optimized driver for use with its field-proven development kit, the Matrox Imaging Library (MIL). The driver requires very little host CPU intervention for processing incoming GigE Vision™ traffic, is compatible with any network interface card (NIC), and co-exists with the standard Windows® network stack which, among other features, allows simultaneous GigE Vision™ and traditional network traffic.

The MIL GigE Vision™ driver will be available to current MIL users as a driver update to MIL/MIL-Lite 8.0 in Q3 2006.

About GigE Vision™

Developed by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), GigE Vision™ is a protocol for video transmission over Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) that is attuned to the needs of scientific and industrial applications. As GbE is based on existing Ethernet standards with extensions, the GigE Vision™ standard includes components for locating a device (i.e., camera) on a network; an XML-based device descriptor for describing a camera's feature set; a control protocol for device/application control; and a streaming protocol for data (i.e., pixel) transmission.
