Planar Systems selects Matrox MED4mp to bundle with Dome E4c

Planar and Matrox continue to deliver innovative, high-quality medical imaging solutions featuring stability and long-life cycles.

Montreal, Canada, May 23, 2006—Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading manufacturer of graphics solutions for professionals, today announced that Planar Systems, a worldwide leader in flat-panel display systems, has validated and has chosen to bundle Matrox MED4mp™ medical display controller boards with its FDA 510(k) approved Dome E4c 4-megapixel color displays.

A bezel-less, high-bright diagnostic display, the Dome E4c is designed for use throughout the healthcare enterprise, optimizing workflow and productivity while allowing medical imaging professionals to confidently view patient images and information. The wide-screen, 16:9 format of the Dome E4c simplifies comparison studies by eliminating image split caused by the bezel of a dual-head monitor and by offering more screen space to show multiple images. With the ability to show 15 full size 512 x 512 images at the same time, E4c dramatically increases productivity when viewing large datasets and studies with multiple series. And with 4MP resolution, the Dome E4c displays more than 90% of a CR image without scaling.

"We are impressed with the image quality, flexible configurations and multi-display support offered by the Matrox MED4mp" said Patrick Herguth, vice president and general manager, medical business unit, Planar. "The features available in the Matrox MED4mp complement the Dome E4c medical display and offering this choice will satisfy our customers' demands."

Paired with the Matrox MED4mp including the hardware pivot feature, the Dome E4c may be configured in either landscape or portrait mode, offering added flexibility for medical imaging professionals. Multiple Dome E4c displays at a single station are also possible by installing multiple Matrox MED4mp boards in the same PC, driving up to four E4c displays from the same system. In addition to supporting the Dome E4c panel, each MED4mp board may also support an analog display up to 2 MP, offering further multi-display configuration options.

"We are pleased that Planar has chosen to offer its customers the MED4mp display controller board together with their Dome E4c medical display," said George Rigas, business development manager, medical imaging, Matrox Graphics, Inc. "With this announcement, Planar and Matrox are renewing their commitment to the highest standard in visual quality, stability, flexibility, compatibility, reliability and long life-cycles which the medical imaging community depends on worldwide."

Matrox MED4mp PCI-64/66 boards fit in PCI 32-bit, PCI 64-bit and PCI-X slots, which in addition to being compatible with the latest systems on the market, also provides an economical advantage to customers who wish to re-use older workstations or server-based systems. Suitable for use in a variety of environments, such as RIS/HIS and PACS stations, Private Practice & Clinical Review, Point of Care including ER and OR, and Orthopedics. Compatible with OpenGL, Direct X, GDI, Java, and an ever expanding list of applications, the Matrox MED4mp follows in the tradition of the original MED Series, including RoHS compliant versions, to satisfy medical imaging professionals who demand the very best in stability, reliability and long life-cycle products.
