What is Matrox PowerRes?
Matrox PowerRes is a feature enabled with the Matrox PowerDesk-SE 2.02 and above display driver. It offers the digital signage community increased resolution support for widescreen plasma and LCD displays. This display driver is equipped with a new user-friendly interface and many feature enhancements, including the ability to add custom resolutions, making it the most flexible display driver for resolution and timings support to-date.Through the use of Matrox PowerRes, the possibility of working in a multitude of widescreen resolutions, timings, and refresh rates is dramatically enhanced.

WARNING: Matrox PowerRes is an advanced feature that should only be accessed by users familiar with the detailed parameters of display timings. If you are not well versed with these parameters, it is recommended you do not use this feature. Please read the user agreement carefully if you choose to use this feature.

What resolution and timing parameters does Matrox PowerRes support?
Through Matrox PowerRes, you can select from a wide variety of default resolutions such as 848x480, 852x480, 1280x768, 1360x768, 1365x768, 1366x768, and many more. You can also add your own display resolutions to this list. For your custom resolution, you can select one of the following timing standards:
Generalized Timing Formula (GTF)
Display Monitor Timings (DMT)
Coordinated Video Timings (CVT)
Coordinated Video Timings-Reduced Blanking (CVT-RB)
Extended Display Identification Data (EDID)

Who can use Matrox PowerRes?
The Matrox PowerRes feature is supported on the Matrox Extio Series, QID Series, Parhelia Series and Millennium P-Series.

Where can I find Matrox PowerRes?
Matrox PowerRes is a feature available with version 2.02 SE and above of the Matrox display driver. It is complimentary and available to all registered users. Registered users can visit http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/drivers/home.php to download the driver.

How do I enable Matrox PowerRes?

To enable the Matrox PowerRes feature, you need to install version 2.04 SE of the Matrox display driver. While using this display driver, you can access PowerRes through the PowerDesk MultiDisplay Setup for your Matrox product.

To access the main PowerDesk menu, click the Matrox PowerDesk-SE icon ( Matrox PowerDesk-SE) on your Windows taskbar. Then click MultiDisplay Setup and select your graphics hardware.

Note: Windows XP -- To see the PowerDesk icon, you may need to click the Show hidden icons button ( Show hidden icons) on your Windows taskbar.

In the Multi-Display Setup dialog box, enable Use advanced Matrox display controls. Select the multi-display setup you want to use. Then go to the Mode source drop down menu.

Mode source is a menu feature available in version 2.02 and above of PowerDesk-SE. Mode source allows the user to decide where resolutions and timings emanate from. Mode source choices can be made from any one of the displays using DDC/C3 EDID technology, Matrox default settings, or PowerRes mode. Once the PowerRes mode is chosen under Mode source, the Edit PowerRes modes button is enabled.

Select the Edit PowerRes modes button.

Read the End User License agreement.
WARNING: If you are unsure about what Matrox PowerRes entails and the potential risks associated, do not accept the End User License Agreement and do not proceed. If you accept the agreement the PowerRes window will appear, if you do not, PowerRes will not be made available.



How can I add my own display mode?
1 At this point, all of the resolutions enabled in the Use column are visible in the PowerRes mode selection list. You can either leave them checked or uncheck any boxes that you do not want listed in the Display mode drop down list found in the main PowerDesk SE user interface (above).



2 To add custom resolutions to the available list, click on the Add mode button.

3 Fill in the width and height of the resolution as well as vertical refresh rate that you want.
NOTE: Please note the maximum custom resolutions supported are 640 ≥1385 in width and 480 ≥1030 in height. Custom resolutions beyond this are not natively supported. Please contact 1-800-361-1408 or fill out our information request form for more information.
