Matrox DualHead2Go
This external box turns a standard VGA output of your laptop into dual-monitor support

by Randall Simpson - Post Magazine
October 2006

“The dual-monitor support of the DualHead2Go was pretty impressive, but added to that, was the fact that it also enabled me to use my regular laptop monitor as a program monitor output for Premiere Pro. The DualHead2Go allowed me to have my timeline on one of my external monitors, my work bins and other tools on the other, and program output from Premiere Pro on my laptop’s monitor. Now that’s what I call maximizing the creative productivity of your laptop!

The DualHead2Go has caused me to rethink my edit suite configuration. As I take my laptop in and out of the edit suite a lot, from now on I will leave a DualHead2Go hooked up to my dual-monitors. When I am using the edit suite for most applications, I will simply come in and plug my laptop into my external storage and then also plug it into the DualHead2Go for editing on my dual monitors. My workstation will remain there for larger rendering and other special projects but the DualHead2Go will allow my laptop to take on much more of my everyday work.

Not quite free, but still a bargain
Matrox isn’t giving the DualHead2Go away for free, but at a MSRP of only $169 it’s a pretty great bargain for the functionality. I can’t see why any DCC professional wouldn’t want to pick up one of these handy and compact, productivity-enhancing units. If you’ve got one of the newer laptops with near workstation class performance, by having DualHead2Go, you’ve suddenly turned your laptop into the true dual-monitor workstation that you’re used to.”
