Alma IT Systems embraces Matrox Xenia Series

Montreal, Canada/Barcelona, Spain, March 4, 2009—Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading manufacturer of specialized graphics solutions, is pleased to announce that Alma IT Systems is adding support for the Matrox Xenia™ Series display controller boards into the Alma medical imaging solutions, such as Alma MPR.

Alma3d MPR is the multiplanar reconstruction module of the Alma3d radiological workstation. Based on a sequence of images, it constructs a three-dimensional model and allows the simultaneous visualization of MPR projections in Axial, Coronal, Sagital and Oblique plane all interactively. The visualization of oblique MPR projections allows obtaining three-dimensional sections of the model in whichever plane is needed. The software allows the user to interactively modify not only the plane of the section, but also the slab thickness and obtain the corresponding image of the section in real time, applying different kind of projections (MIP, MinIP, Average or Volume Rendering). Moreover, the software allows to interactively creating curved projections of the volume model, for applications such as ortopantomography or vessel tracking. Alma3d, validated by the IHE, is totally compatible with DICOM, and is consequently prepared to work integrally with clinical information systems such as HIS/RIS/PACS.

"With Matrox Xenia we can take full advantage of Alma3d workstation working simultaneously with 3 monitors, having full MPR reconstruction in one of them, and just using a single PCI-Express slot. This configuration optimizes the performance of the graphical system and saves us from possible conflicts between different graphic cards installed in the same computer" says Jordi Lopez, technical manager, Alma IT Systems.

Matrox Xenia is the first native PCI Express single-slot board with all-digital, triple-monitor output and the flexibility to drive practically any known display configuration. Xenia Series supports resolutions from under 1MP up to 8MP, with up to 1GB of on-board memory, and features new technology to ensure optimum display calibration (via Matrox DLC™ and 8/10/13-bit gamma LUTs).

"As a valuable development Partner for the Matrox Xenia Series, we have been working with Alma to ensure compatibility across a variety of applications" says George Rigas, business development manager for medical imaging, Matrox Graphics Inc. "Our objective is to enable Alma solutions to exploit the fullest potential of our technology for medical imaging professionals."

With the development potential for increasing hardware-accelerated performance via hardware LUTs, multiple hardware window IDs, and additional hardware features, Xenia Series is a flexible and expandable solution for medical imaging developers and integrators looking for leading edge technology.
