Matrox Extio remote graphics units power computer-aided dispatch systems in state-of-the-art Arlington County Emergency Communications Center
Unique graphics and I/O extension technology provides more space and less noise at emergency communications operator consoles
Arlington, VA, May 16th, 2008—Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading manufacturer of graphics solutions for professionals, today announced that Matrox Extio F1400 remote graphics units (RGUs) have been selected by the Arlington County Office of Emergency Management for use with thirty new Tiburon computer-aided dispatch (CAD) workstations deployed in a new 8,000-square-foot emergency communications center (ECC). Inaugurated today and scheduled to officially open on May 20th, 2008, this new ECC will provide 9-1-1, police, fire, and emergency medical dispatch services to Arlington County, as well as 9-1-1, fire, and emergency medical dispatch services to the city of Falls Church, Virginia.
"The Matrox Extio F1400 device was instrumental in enabling us to reduce noise levels and address heat concerns at the emergency communications operator consoles," says Roger Waller, CAD Systems Manager, Technology Specialist, Arlington County Office of Emergency Management - Public Safety Emergency Communications Center. "The ability to separate each CAD workstation from the operator consoles by a single fiber-optic cable, as well as the advanced multi-display support and image quality made possible with this device were key factors in determining our selection of this technology. The Extio F1400 RGUs have helped us to meet one of our goals for this 24/7 operation-to design a more comfortable work environment within which to maximize productivity."
"Matrox is proud to have worked closely with solution providers like Tiburon, and customers like Arlington County, for years on solutions aimed at separating user peripherals from the main computing systems in ECCs," says Samuel Recine, Business Development Manager - Critical Decision Systems, Matrox Graphics Inc. "ECC IT management teams have been gradually deploying split-PC architectures to drive down noise levels and ensure optimal temperature and humidity conditions for both operators and equipment. In this case, where user response and multi-monitor graphics performance were critical elements, the optimal product was the Matrox Extio F1400 remote graphics unit."
