Introducing the new Matrox MED4mp display controller board

Continuing its tradition of graphics excellence, Matrox demonstrates its new MED Series board designed for 4 MP high resolution color displays.

Montreal, Canada, May 23, 2006—Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading manufacturer of graphics solutions for professionals, today announced its new Matrox MED4mp display controller board, bringing more of its renowned Matrox MED™ Series software expertise and award-winning graphics technology to the medical imaging market.

The Matrox MED4mp is being demonstrated for the first time in the Matrox booth #432 at SCAR 2006 in Austin, Texas in a mobile point of care station using a Dome by Planar E4c color display which can be switched between portrait or landscape orientations. Primarily designed to support recent 4 MP display technologies and offering medical imaging professionals new configuration and installation choices, the Matrox MED4mp includes a variety of color and grayscale modes supporting analog and digital displays.

The Matrox MED Series represents a top-to-bottom solution designed to meet the demanding needs of medical imaging professionals. Combined with Matrox's multi-monitor features, including hardware pivot, Matrox MED4mp display controller boards offers the medical imaging community the ultimate in visual quality, stability, flexibility, compatibility, reliability and long life-cycles which customers worldwide depend on.

Matrox MED Series display controller boards, including the MED2mp-DVI, MED3mp-DVI, MED4mp-DVI and MED5mp-DVI with 256MB of onboard memory, represent a top-to-bottom approach for display configurations supporting landscape and portrait modes ranging from under two through five mega pixels.

The Matrox MED™ Series is a very adaptable product line. In 2002, Reinhard Bräuer, director of sales and marketing, Siemens Automation and Drives, Display Technologies said:

"Pristine image quality is of utmost importance in the medical imaging field. Based on our experience with Matrox medical products to date, we know that Matrox graphics cards provide the outstanding image quality that medical imaging professionals insist upon. The new Matrox MED5mp, five megapixel analog grayscale PCI card is no exception."

And more recently, Patrick Herguth, vice president and general manager, medical business unit, Planar said:

"We are excited to introduce the Matrox display controller boards with our Dome EX and PX line of medical displays to fulfill our customers' needs. Our customers expect quality and dedication to stability, reliability, service and support, all of which are hallmarks of Planar and Matrox.

"With fast image loading and full support for the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standards for grayscale calibration of portrait and/or landscape resolutions, this new selection of medical graphics solutions provides precise images in color or grayscale and flicker-free output for applications such as X-ray imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), computed radiography (CR) and cardiology, and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) applications such as review stations and diagnostic stations.

The Matrox MED Series provides users with incomparable reliability and stability, based on proven graphics technology, and software drivers that have been deployed and used by millions of users worldwide. The only graphics manufacturer who designs its own graphics chips, boards and drivers, Matrox Graphics uses its complete control of all aspects of the board design to ensure the highest possible image quality, reliability and performance, ensuring the longest life-cycle of its products to its customers.

"We are very proud to announce the recent addition of the Matrox MED4mp to our Matrox MED™ Series family of display controller boards for medical imaging," says George Rigas, business development manager, Matrox Graphics Inc. "With our comprehensive set of display configurations, extensive multi-monitor and multi-display support with rock-solid drivers, Matrox continues to offer the medical imaging community an extensive line of products to meet the needs of the most demanding medical imaging professional."

The Matrox MED4mp was designed specifically to drive the recently introduced 4 MP medical displays, which are suitable for use in a variety of environments, such as:

  • RIS/HIS and/or PACS solutions - Users can select a single 4 MP color display in lieu of two 2 MP color displays, eliminating any potential desktop real estate limitations. A single Matrox MED4mp drives a single 4 MP display, and if required, the MED4mp can also drive a second 2MP navigation console / patient list display from a single board, simplifying overall installation, support and configuration.
  • Private Practice & Clinical Review - Medical professionals may choose to configure their systems with these higher density 4 MP displays to minimize the number of displays. A single 4 MP displays may be more practical and economical in some circumstances.
  • Point of Care - With limited space in either ERs or ORs, a mobile cart point of care solution can be configured to tie into a hospital RIS/HIS/PACS network to provide convenience and mobility as required, supporting a single display, 4 MP solution.
  • Orthopedics - With a large screen, high density, 4 MP display, medical imaging professionals may find such a display more suitable for viewing "near life-size" images of patient x-rays in a preferred portrait mode.

A single 4 MP medical grade display with appropriate accessories, may be rotated and oriented in either portrait or landscape modes, providing medical imaging professionals a multitude of display options to meet or exceed their review or diagnostic needs for use with thoracic, abdominal, orthopedic, and/or ultrasound images, to name a few.

Compatible with Open GL, Direct X, GDI, Java, and an ever expanding list of applications, the Matrox MED4mp follows in the tradition of the original MED Series to satisfy medical imaging professionals who demand the very best in stability, reliability and long life-cycle products.
