Is TripleHead2Go a graphics card?
No, TripleHead2Go is not a graphics card. Rather it is a palm-sized box that sits outside of your system and expands a single desktop onto three monitors. It seamlessly harnesses the native graphics hardware already present in your system for all 2D, 3D and video drawing. The more powerful your existing graphics, the more powerful your TripleHead2Go multi-monitor environment.

How does TripleHead2Go work?
TripleHead2Go appears to your system as an ultra-ultra-widescreen monitor. Using standard EDID reporting mechanisms, the TripleHead2Go will cause the graphics device already present in your system to generate the ultra-ultra-widescreen image, which is sent to TripleHead2Go. TripleHead2Go then splits this ultra-ultra-widescreen image into a left section, a center section and a right section and sends the normal size images to regular monitors.

Is "clone" or "mirror" mode possible with TripleHead2Go?
A clone or mirror mode causes the same image to be output onto all monitors. The TripleHead2Go does not support clone or mirror mode. In the case that a standard VESA resolution is selected, this image will simply be monitored on the center monitor.

Is DVD and video full screen playback supported with TripleHead2Go?
Yes. If your notebook or computer is already equipped with a DVD player, you will be able to watch a DVD or video content on any of the monitors of your multi-monitor environment. Playback will be as smooth as it would have been on your notebook.

Will adding TripleHead2Go affect the performance of my system?
The technology behind TripleHead2Go does not slow down your computer. You can easily verify this by running TripleHead2Go in a single screen resolution (1280x1024), and you will see that the performance will be the same when there is no TripleHead2Go. TripleHead2Go works in conjunction with your system’s existing graphics card, and the graphics card is still responsible for all 2D, 3D and video rendering. However, TripleHead2Go opens up wider multi-monitor opportunities for you. These multi-monitor environments enable a greater number of pixels to be drawn simultaneously than in a single-screen mode. In the same manner that higher resolutions can impact performance in single-screen systems, performance may vary with higher triple-screen resolutions. The number of megapixels drawn (which is the total number of pixels drawn on a screen) is a good general indicator of graphics workload. The chart below compares the Megapixels of triple-screen resolutions versus single-screen resolutions.

TripleHead Resolution   MegaPixels   SingleHead Resolution   MegaPixels
1920 x 480 0.88 MP 1024 x 768 0.77 MP
2400 x 600 1.37 MP 1280 x 1024 1.25 MP
3072 x 768 2.25 MP 1920 x 1440 2.64 MP
3840 x 1024 3.75 MP 2560 x 1600 3.91 MP

What is the price of TripleHead2Go?
The suggested retail price of the TripleHead2Go Analog Edition is $299USD and the TripleHead2Go Digital Edition is $329USD in North America. Some dealers may sell for less.

Where can I buy TripleHead2Go?
Matrox TripleHead2Go is available worldwide through authorized system integrators and dealers. To locate a reseller near you, please click here.

If you reside in North America or Europe, you may also buy TripleHead2Go from the Matrox online store at Shopmatrox.com.

For more information, call Matrox Sales at 1-800-361-1408 (North America) or e-mail insales@matrox.com

Do I need a special brand of monitor?
TripleHead2Go can be hooked up to any monitor, including flat panel monitors. To take full advantage of TripleHead2Go, we recommend you use three identical monitors (that is, monitors that support the same monitor settings such as monitor resolution and refresh rate).

Can I work with my notebook lid closed?
Yes. Once TripleHead2Go is connected to your notebook and monitors, you can close your notebook, put it aside, and simply use an external keyboard and mouse along with your three extra monitors. The mechanism for setting the TripleHead2Go up in this manner varies from notebook vendor to notebook vendor.

Can I connect multiple DualHead2Go/TripleHead2Go units in 1 system?
Although it may be physically possible to connect multiple DualHead2Go/TripleHead2Go units on the same system, Matrox does not recommend doing so. The Matrox Software Suite supports a configuration of 1 unit per system. Adding more than 1 unit per system has not been tested. Matrox does not plan to support these types of configurations. The DualHead2Go and the TripleHead2Go products were designed with a 1 unit per system configuration support model.

Can I use TripleHead2Go Digital Edition if my system has only a VGA connector?
Yes. TripleHead2Go Digital Edition has input connectors for dual-link digital and analog (VGA). If your desktop or laptop only has an analog (VGA) output and is on the compatibility list, TripleHead2Go will work with the systems' VGA connector.

Does TripleHead2Go Digital Edition support analog monitors?
Yes. TripleHead2Go Digital Edition has three DVI-I outputs, each of which can support either a DVI digital or an analog monitor. To connect analog monitors, you need to purchase 3x DVI-to-VGA adapters.

Can I mix analog (VGA) and digital monitors with the TripleHead2Go Digital Edition?
Yes, any combination of analog and digital monitors is supported with TripleHead2Go Digital Edition.

How can I tell if my graphics card or notebook supports dual-link digital?
You need to check the specification of your graphics card or notebook to determine if dual-link DVI output is supported.

How do I know if TripleHead2Go will work with my notebook or computer when running a Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP x64bit, or Windows Vista™ operating system?
TripleHead2Go is compatible with many professional and enthusiast class desktop and notebook PCs equipped with certain NVIDIA®, Intel® and ATI® enabled graphics chipsets and add-in-boards. A list of supported GPUs is available on the TripleHead2Go compatibility page. Another way to check if your system is supported is to simply run the Matrox TripleHead2Go System Compatibility Tool available for free, prior to purchase.

Maximum resolutions supported may vary depending on the GPU version. More information regarding specific GPU versions and resolution limits is also available on the TripleHead2Go compatibility page.

For information on TripleHead support with Mac systems, please refer to the TripleHead2Go compatibility list.

What is the TripleHead2Go System Compatibility Tool?
The TripleHead2Go System Compatibility Tool allows you to check the compatibility of your system under Windows operating system with TripleHead2Go before you buy it. It checks information such as the manufacturer of your notebook or PC, the graphics card you're using, the driver version installed, your operating system, and compares it to a list of validated devices to ensure that your particular configuration will work with TripleHead2Go (it may suggest changes you can make such as downloading a more recent driver version that would enable you to benefit from all the functionality TripleHead2Go has to offer). You can download and run the TripleHead2Go System Compatibility Tool by clicking here.

For compatible Mac systems, please check Mac compatibility.

How long does it take to install TripleHead2Go and what is involved?
Setting up TripleHead2Go can be done in only a few minutes; it's basically just a matter of connecting your monitors! You adjust the monitor resolution and refresh rate on your monitors to 1024x768 @60Hz, shut down your computer, attach the Matrox cable to the bracket of your graphics card or VGA port of your notebook (the other end goes into the INPUT connector of your TripleHead2Go), connect the three monitors to your TripleHead2Go using the monitor cables, plug in the power supply and turn on your computer. Select the "TripleHead Stretched Modes" and voilà!

Can I use the integrated display in my notebook in addition to a TripleHead2Go for a total of four screens?
Yes.

What is a TripleHead 'stretched mode'?
A TripleHead stretched mode refers to a single desktop that is set to a very wide resolution. This desktop is then extended across three physically separate monitors. Note that even though the word 'stretched' is used, there is no actual stretching of the image or pixel distortion. The operating system draws every pixel as sharply as it would a 'normal' desktop. The maximum stretched resolution supported by TripleHead2Go on compatible systems is:

3840 x 1024 @60hz (triple 1280)

How do I select these new modes (Windows only)?
These new 'TripleHead Stretched Modes' will show up in the usual 'Monitor Properties' page accessed by right-clicking the Windows® desktop and choosing 'settings'. The screen resolution bar will have the supported widescreen modes added to the list of available resolutions. For you to select one of these TripleHead Stretch Modes, you simply have to access this menu and use the slider bar to select.

How do I setup a game to run in Surround Gaming mode (Windows only)?
To help customize games to properly function in Surround Gaming mode, Matrox bundles a Surround Gaming Utility (SGU) with the TripleHead2Go. The Surround Gaming Utility is a simple software application which automatically updates game configuration files of supported games to have proper settings enabled for TripleHead resolutions. The user simply selects the game from the list, selects the desired Surround Gaming Resolution and pushes an 'Optimize' button within the SGU. The SGU also supports user-defined updates of Surround Gaming 'recipes' for games not on the initial Matrox list. In this way, Matrox is enabling the user community to add support for additional games directly. Currently, the SGU supports more than 200 games. See www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/products/th2go/gaming/home.php for more details.

Are there any compatibility issues with regular Windows applications, workstation applications or productivity applications?
The TripleHead2Go works with all regular Windows applications, workstation applications and productivity applications. Whether the application is a high-end 3D design package, Microsoft Office or just notepad, all of these should just work in conjunction with TripleHead2Go. The only applications which may experience certain compatibility issues with TripleHead2Go are full-screen DirectX applications (ie. video games). For games that run in fullscreen mode, all games will work with TripleHead2Go on at least a single screen. Additionally, over 200 titles are currently supported in Surround Gaming mode.

Can I use the TripleHead2Go with 2 monitors and then upgrade to 3 monitors at a later time when using Windows operating system?
Matrox TripleHead2Go does support extra resolutions (beyond the 4 native modes that come with the TripleHead2Go), such as triple widescreen support, dual resolution support and a higher refresh rate for CRT users. These DualHead® modes or Triple Widescreen modes are enabled through a software applet called the Matrox TripleHead2Go Mode Expander Tool (TMET) that is available for download on the Matrox Graphics website. For TripleHead2Go Digital Edition, DualHead® modes or Triple Widescreen modes are enabled through the PowerDesk SE software suite that comes bundled with the product.

Why do I get black borders when I enable the Matrox Monitor Bezel Management feature?
Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition provides Monitor Bezel Management by shifting the images from the left and right panels so that some of the data is effectively dropped behind the bezels. The data is shifted from the outside edges of the left and right panels, leaving a black border that is the same width as the gap.

Yes. Once TripleHead2Go is connected to your notebook and monitors, you can close your notebook, put it aside, and simply use an external keyboard and mouse along with your three extra monitors.

How do I setup my Mac notebook with a TripleHead2Go when my notebook lid is closed?
To acquire this setup, first configure your TripleHead2Go so that it's running as the secondary monitor with the notebook LCD open. It is recommended that you have either a USB keyboard or mouse or both, since the built-in ones will be unavailable once your notebook is configured and the lid is closed (make sure one of these is disconnected from the notebook before closing the notebook lid). The notebook will then enter a "sleep state", at which point you can plug in the USB device and the notebook will "wake up" and set the external output as the primary monitor.

Based on my graphics card, what resolution should I expect with my Mac system?
The level of support you can expect is similar as on a Windows operating system. To compare the maximum resolution support anticipated whether you are using an Intel, NVIDIA or ATI add-on board with TripleHead2Go, please refer to the TripleHead2Go compatibility list.

How can I find which graphics card I have on my Mac Pro?
To find out which graphics card you are using on your Mac Pro, start by opening the Apple menu and select 'About This Mac' from the dialog box that appears. In the 'About This Mac', click the 'More Info' button, at which point the System Profiler will open. Select the 'Graphics/Monitor' page and you see the graphics card model listed there.

How do I know if TripleHead2Go will work with my Mac notebook or desktop?
